Academic Half Day: Defense of the Measures

There are no readings this week; however, you are welcome to simulate our long blocker’s experience by reviewing the present data on each measure to form your own opinion.

As part of the Long Block, we keep track of resident and practice performance data for many different measures including influenza vaccination rates, AAA screening rates, A1c < 9% rates, and more. The goal is to provide quality care to our patients and participate in an environment of constant improvement. Every year we look at the measures that we are currently measuring and determine if there are any new measures we would like to begin measuring. The new Long Blockers have been divided into groups to argue for or against adding the following measures to our Performance Data Dashboards:

The Measures:

  • Universal Hepatitis C Screening

  • Stopping Use of Aspirin for Inappropriate Primary Prevention

  • Use of Statin for Primary Prevention (note: excludes those with atherosclerotic disease already)

  • Customization of Diabetic Eye Exams
