Required Training at UC and the VA
UC Required Training
The training listed below are all mandatory and if you do not complete them, you will not be able to work on your project. In most situations, each training course takes one hour or less to complete.
UC Regulatory Training – Research Involving Human Subjects
Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI) Web-based Training Course
Follow instructions posted on the IRB's website
For Institution, select Greater Cincinnati Academic Health Center
HIPAA and Blood Borne Pathogen training certificate must be up to date
UC Regulatory Training – Research Involving Animals or Radioisotopes
FDA Regulated Research - If mentor has you working on project involved IND/IDE
VA Required Training
VA Research, or Research involving Veterans
Cincinnati VA Medical Center Research
The VA R&D Committee must approve all research at the VA.
You should also schedule a meeting with the Associate Chief of Research at the VA to discuss your project.
For research involving the VA Simulation Lab, the VA Simulation director must approve the project.
For human research - “Human Subjects Protection/Good Clinical Practices”
For animal research - “Working with the VA IACUC,” and “Working with (specific animal) in Research Settings.”
**The Cincinnati VA’s CITI training is different than UC’s CITI training. If you are already in the CITI system, click on “Affiliate with Another Institution” and select “Cincinnati OH-539” from the Veterans Affairs drop down menu. As you register, you will respond to questions that will determine what VA courses you will need to complete. The Cincinnati VA affiliation will be added to your Main Menu in CITI.
